analogous to the principle of distillation, an audio processing chain (=~ "effects") can be constructed with some of the piping in the form of internet conncetions. at each stage of the chain, audio can be tapped off for further experiments and maybe combination with generators.
this approach is perfectly suited for the processes of convolution and granular (re)synthesis as discussed at the first day of the workshop.

yes _ that is what we agreed on the first day and I always stuck to it, so now I am trying to get some convolution running under fft (fourier transforms) in max/msp and don't want to use external objects so building it from scratch, almost finished and will upload and send it - got 2-3 versions already but not totally ok with the sound yet, then proceeding in doing the same about granular synthesis and want to see how far we can get into that as well... and finally I will link them with genetic algorithms (crossovers, parent-offspring in steps, different translations and leaky principles) and got the beginning of that already just have to extend it a little and apply it to the parameters in the convolution and ga's, and finally want to use this 'toolbox' on sound but also on visual data so they got tied in together very closely...

i think we should also decide between all audio streaming or also streaming of other data, which can be used in a midi/osc fashion and similar transmutational processes can be applied to them -i think guy put something online on this kind of stuff...

for the fist approach some microfones will do, for the second we'd also need some sensors and the like.
if the focus is on the first, we need to sort bandwidth issues, the hybrid approach is potentially more efficient.

now the idea was to connect it to a physical part in the installation: mike input and video input but also wanted to see how we can change parameter settings with light and heat from a board that controls that, and of course make the data of all things mentioned above available realtime online (I would simply stream a matrix with it, had another idea of using mysql and store all different matrices and dynamically store/retrieve them so you create a history that you can select and feed back in) and then online ppl can get into the circulation and become part of the transmutation proces...

also, guy, you will be in bxl right? could you set up speakers and maybe make a nice panning algorithm? a dynamic mixer of different sources would be nice too, i don't think streaming 8 mics or something is a good idea.

will await what come out of the physical setup and will wire up only the essential things, I believe more in generating artificial sounds based on the real sounds and if we have the generators running on each side it can be more effective to send/receive less data and keep up a good full output - everything I say here will go for the visuals as well
